Masters were commissioned to create altars for the church by citizens, societies and guilds. The tabernacle presents an event in space, which is a novelty. The altar of Birth of Christ has a landscape in the background, the group of statues narrate what happened in Bethlehem at the Holy Night and the panels on the wings follow engravings by Schongauer, as was the prevailing mode.
