I own a steel etching of Munkaczy's Christ Before Pilate that was done in 1883. It is signed by Munkaczy and someone else I can't read. It is about 36 by 30 inches and in a beautiful large gold frame. We have had it since we purchased it a resale shop in the Chicago area in the mid-sixties. I have what looks like a watercolour signed by Le Zichy of a woman sitting on a bed and looking down to her hands placed in her lap. The nightdress is white with a little blue trim around the neck. I love Csontvary! His paintings are so beautiful, I love the 'Company Crossing a Bridge' and his last, with the riders on the beach. I love how his figures of horses and people look, kind of dreamy and stylized, and I love the colors in his landscapes. It it so sad that he struggled with schizophrenia and gave up painting in 1909 due to discouragement and loneliness. I wonder why you don't hear much about this artist, his work is amazing. I was pleased to be able to locate biographical info and view other works of an artist (Bela Kontuly). I have a beautiful still life of his which graces my home. It contains a floral arrangement in a china vessel along with several fruits including a dish of cherries. A small china pitcher is also rendered in a delicate manner. I would like to learn more information about Bela`Kontuly(1904, Miscolc-1983,Budapest). He studied art in Prague and at the Art School in Budapest.(1928-30). I have a painting on masonite that he may have painted. I am skeptical because an artist of his caliber would certainly have preferred canvas. Ann Marie Kemp . Does anyone have any information on Mihaly Munkacsy's painting of Milton Dictating Paradise Lost to His Daughter? I know that one hangs in a museum in Budapest and there is a large version in the New York Public Library. I have been told there are a few more on view. Does anyone know where they could be found?
