Woman Fetching Water

-
Cast bronze, 80 mm
Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest

Vilmos Fémes Beck was the talented younger brother of Fülöp Ö. Beck. His career was tragically short, but he managed to find an original expression that linked his works with current progressive European art.

The nude in the "Woman Fetching Water" reveals the constructivist search for essence in the structure of the body. It is an analytic representation, and the emphasized structural elements give the figure a monumental effect despite its small size. The beautiful arch of the bending, forcefully articulated nude and the grace of her bent head and the arm holding the vessel counter-balance the muscular figure.
