FÉMES-BECK, Vilmos

Sculptor and industrial artist, brother of Fülöp Ö. Beck. Fémes Beck, still an apprentice, wanted to learn how to chase metal, later his interest was drawn to modelling and the goldsmith's trade. After evening courses at the School of Applied Arts, he was awarded the gold medal at an international exhibition in Milan in 1906. On his return from study trips to Germany, Paris and London, he modelled medals and statues. He wan invited to work together with the "Eights", a group of artists. He returned ill from World War I.

He was the first Hungarian representative of modern sculptural arts, his real significance was appreciated only long after his death. Six of his statues are in the possession of the Hungarian National Gallery.
