What's New in the Collection

Since the opening of the collection in May 1997 several changes took place which can be summarized as follows.

Changes in March 2008:

  • As a result of technical developments, the size of the displayed images was increased. The sizes of both the thumbnail images and the images on the pages containing commentaries are now increased by 50%. This change makes the use of the collection more effective.
  • The postcard service has been improved, with the result of higher reliability. The visible change is the increase in the size of the virtual postcard.

In the second half of 2003 a renewal took place due to the grant provided by the Ministry of Informatics an Communication:

  • The number of reproductions increased to over 5.100, mainly by artworks from the 20th century. The number of artists represented in the collection is around 450.

In April 1998 the size of the collection was increased considerable and - reflecting the changes in content - it received a new title: Fine Arts in Hungary. The important changes are as follows.

  • In addition to painting, the collection now extends to sculpture, too. Within sculpture the medieval stone and wood carvings are well represented.
  • In painting the number of reproduction of medieval and Baroque artworks increased significantly.
  • The number of commented pictures is doubled.
  • We introduced new services, namely the Guided Tours and the Postcard Service.
  • A Guestbook was opened for the visitors to sign it and make comments visible for other visitors, too.
In the future we intend to further increase the size of the collection as well as the number and quality of the services.
