Gerard David (c. 1450-1523): Nativity

c. 1490
Oil on wood, 76,5 x 56 cm
Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest

The picture shows the awkward shepherds in their boots hardly dare get close to the child. The figure in the background is thought to be the portrait of the artist himself. The sharp and detailed representation of the city's streets and houses in the background is also quite remarkable.
