The tall figures of Mary and Joseph are visible in the picture's foreground, looking with devotion at the child surrounded by angels. Christ is looking back with his hands raised to bless them. Behind him stand the animals protecting him. The traditional ruined or half-finished barn separates them from the barely noticeable Annunciation to the Shepherds scene in the top left-hand corner. We can see the same shepherds stepping into the barn and falling to their knees, worshipping the child. Their size do not match with the characters of either scene, forming a transition between them.
The composition, in spite of the specific design and details, is a faithful rework of a well-known engraving by Schongauer.
The panel is in the possession of the Hontszentantal Parish Church. It was probably the uppermost picture on the right-hand moving-wing of the original altar. It is truncated in its present state.
