Surrealism

Surrealism attempted to bring messages from the subconscious to the surface with unexpected association of ideas, thus it rejected artistic methods controlled by mind. One of its variants portrayed absurd visions with naturalistic accuracy, while the other version relied on abstract forms. It used to flourish in the early 20th century, but it still has followers.

Of Hungarian artists, it was Lajos Gulácsy who was particularly influenced by it.
