Besides Szolnok, Adolf Fényes worked in other small towns not far from Pest, e.g. in Szentendre and Vác in the early 20th century. One of his major works is related to Vác which radiates languor in spite of the slow movement of the two figures. Quiet peace overwhelms the space between the old walls. This awkward peace comes from patches of paint of large masses and the prevalence of warm yellowish shades. Glamour recalling sunshine is enhanced by gleaming reds on clothes and sunshades of female figures and the green of the grass by the road. Reflexes of purple and shadows indicate a sense of colours. The artist breaks up large areas with his reflex brushwork in a magnificent way, this is how plains seemingly empty are filled with details rich in colour. In his most harmonious period which started in 1904, Fényes was in search of unity of vision and purity of painting, while decorative general effects become more and more important for him.
