High Altar in Kassa (1474-77)

In the casket with rich architectural arrangement, there are three figures: the statues of Madonna and two statues of St. Elisabeth in dynamic drapery. Pictures on the wings were painted by several masters. Scenes from the St. Elisabeth cycle are the most delicate which can be seen when the altar is open. Panels of the Passion and Life of Mary appear to be more traditional, but they all follow the same artistic approach. The panel (Suffering Christ with Mary) from Kassa which is in the collection of the Hungarian National Gallery recall realism of the Passion portrayed on the High Altar in Kassa.
