Head of a King from Pilisszentkereszt (c 1230)

It was perhaps the side stone of the tomb of Gertrude. It used to be covered by paint. The composition of a harmonious face, delicate portrayal of anatomical characteristics, and the careful presentation of hair and beard are of excellent standard. The cheerful expression of the face, and the perfect portrayal make the sarcophagus an excellent example of Gothic sculpture of around 1230.
