Parish Curch, Gyöngyöspata

The altar, executed in mid-17th century, represents the Jesse's Tree. The reclining figure of Jesse is flanked by two angels holding candles. The branches of the tree contain 18 figures representing the ancestors of Mary. In the centre an oil painting depicts the birth of Mary.

The prophecy of Isaiah (11:1-3) that a Messiah would spring from the family of Jesse, the father of David, was interpreted visually in the Middle Ages as a genealogical tree.
