An influential painter and pioneer of the Late Gothic style was the Master of Crowned Madonna Enthroned from Szepesófalu who probably worked around 1460 in Késmárk. His significant works include a remarkable accomplished torso of the panel painted on both sides and representing a fragment of the Nativity scene (Adoration of Infant Christ) and The Flight into Egypt on the reverse side. The panel formed originally part of the altar having at its centre the Crowned Madonna Enthroned from Szepesófalu. This painting was one of the the first important works of Late Gothic style in the Szepesség (Upper Hungary).

The painter respects the older tradition as seen from the idealized face of Mary, the way in which the wings were painted and the lyrical mood of the composition. But his painting programme was enriched with new compositional, personal and subject nuances. He proved to be an accomplished colorist of deep lustruous tones. He applies the light with the strokes of the brush, making thus stand out the relief of the painting. In the background of the scenes, the painter paints a widely open landscape.
