Monument to György Schönberg

1470
Limestone, 200 x 75 cm
St Martin Provostry Church (Cathedral), Pozsony

The tombstone was executed in the life of György Schönberg, Provost of Pozsony. The standing figure of the deceased in a Gothic niche is unique among the funeral monuments in Hungary. This work is one of the most significant stone sculptures in late Gothic Hungarian art. The realistic figure shows the influence of wood carving. The composition of this funeral monument differs from other contemporary types.
