ZEMPLÉNYI, Tivadar
(1864, Eperjes - 1917, Budapest)

First he studied a Mintarajziskola (School of Drawing), then continued at the Munich Academy. In 1891 a goverment scholarship enabled him to travel in Italy. After returning home, he spent a long period at the free school of Szolnok. He was awarded several medals, such as the grand prize of the state and a silver medal of the St. Louis universal exhibition in 19. His model painter was Bastien-Lepage. His art was characterized by the new approach to Nature, the so-called Munich Realism.
