In "fin de siecle" depiction of women, the nudes constitute a special category. In Biblical and Mythological representations she is temptation or sin; elsewhere she becomes a vampire or sphynx whose embrace is deadly; and occasionally, she represents beauty for its own sake. Standing Nude by Vaszary belongs to the latter category. The picture captures the intimacy of dressing with the immediacy of a snapshot.
