"Room Interior" is one of the greatest works painted during Tornyai's Szentendre period. He painted details of his studio in several pictures. Often there is no figure present, one can see hardly any furniture, perhaps only some bright coloured drapery hanging down. His room interiors are almost like still-lives, and objects have their own lives. The arrangement of "Room Interior" and glistening golden yellows are peculiar reflexions of Tornyai's late artistic period. The golden light of the sunshine floods the room through the window. The glass reflects this flood of light and projects the shadows of the window on the floor. He makes the space of the room deeper by placing the table at right angles with the couch. The rope stretched out in the foreground emphasizes this effect with a red cloth and a yellow-green kerchief hanging down. It was in fact on various shades of yellow. The room is simple, poorly and depressing but the final message of bright colours glistening in the sunshine expresses the old painter's reconciliation and optimism.
