TIKOS, Albert
(1815, Debrecen - 1845, Vienna)

Painter. He studied under the guidance of Friedrich von Amerling in Vienna. He painted subtly rendered, picturesque portraits and female genre figures. Several of his paintings were displayed in the exhibition of the Art Club of Pest held in 1841 (Study of a Head, Girl With Sleeping Lapdog, Reading Girl, Slovak Shepherd Boy Having Lunch etc.). He painted the portraits of S. Zichy and his wife, i.e. the parents of Mihály Zichy. He visited Munich in 1841 and Rome in 1842. He exhibited his painting entitled 'Odalisque' in Pest in 1844, and another one titled 'Italian Woman' in Vienna in 1845. He painted icons for the Greek Catholic Church of Eperjes, too. He died young, as a promising talent of the biedermeier epoch. His Self-portrait (1840) can be found in the Hungarian National Gallery.
