Rise up, Hungarian!

János Thorma was one of the last representatives of romantic historicism in Hungarian art. "Rise up, Hungarian!", a large-size canvas with objective presentation, is one of his major works. He was engaged in the artistic presentation of the Hungarian revolution of 1848 from 1898 until the rest of his life. The picture, on which he had been working for decades, was never really finished. The defects in compositions, however, do not affect the value of the brilliant details. The picture is exhibited in the János Thorma Museum in Kiskunhalas.
