Faun and Nymph (study)

1867
Pencil drawing, 308 x 202 mm
Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest

Szinyei played an outstanding role in the revival of Hungarian painting at the end of the last century. This was mainly with his oil paintings, and his drawings were for the most part small studies for his early full-scale works. The earlier one reproduced here was a study for "Faun and Nymph" painted in 1868. He painted several versions of the same subject, and they can be considered an early manifestation of the connection of man and nature in his art.
