1893
Bronze
Garden of the Hungarian National Museum, Budapest

Around the turn of the century the Hungarian sculptors received several commissions for executing memorial sculptures, monuments to great statemen and artists. Among the sculptors working on this field Alajos Stróbl, János Fadrusz and György Zala were the most significant. Besides the Arany Monument shown here Stróbl executed the monuments of composers Franz Liszt and Ferenc Erkel and writer Mór Jókai.

János Arany was one of the most important Hungarian poets of the 19th century. You can find English translations of some of his poems in the Hungarian Electronic Library.
