PETRI, Lajos
(1884, Szeged - 1963, Budapest)

Sculptor. After law studies in Budapest and Berlin, he became a pupil of Ede Telcs in 1907. His first major work was the bust of Gyula Juhász in 1909. He spent most of the time in Brussels between 1909 and 1922. He modelled his "Hussar Memorial", one of the best examples of classicizing memorials in 1935.

He was commissioned to create several statues to be erected in public places after 1945 ("Glass Blower" in Sajószentpéter, "Portrait of Adolf Fényes" in Kecskemét, and "Portrait of Antal Tisza" in Szolnok, etc.). His character portrayals ("Dezső Szabó", "Zoltán Kodály", and "Milán Füst", etc.) reflect great artistic skills.
