MOKRY-MÉSZÁROS, Dezső
(1881, Sajóecseg - 1970, Miskolc)

As a self-educated painter, he lived an adventurous life travelling across Asia, Africa and Western Europe. His paintings document partly his travel experience and partly the very special creations of his imagination: prehistoric findings, cosmic creatures and sea animals. From these bits and pieces he built up his symbolic-mystic painted world full of tiny miracles and mysteries, which he organised in cycles: 'Life on Alien Planets', 'Oceania' and 'Mystery'.

Just as he did during his travels, he wanted to explore for himself the long-gone ancient past and the stellar world in his works of art, too. His efforts produced an unparalleled art that ripened for discovery only very recently.
