MEZEY, Lajos
(1820, Nagyvárad - 1880, Nagyvárad)



Painter. Learnt his art from a strolling painter, then worked for some months in Pest in 1845. He worked in his native town from 1848 till the end of his life, and was occupied mainly with portrait painting. Due to financial difficulties he opened a photographic studio at the end of 1864. In 1862 he was the first art teacher to instruct Pál Szinyei Merse. He painted two significant altar pictures for the Friar's Church in Nagyvárad (Oradea, now in Romania).
