MATTYASOVSZKY-ZSOLNAY, László
(1885, Pécs - 1935, Pécs)



Painter and ceramist. He studied under the guidance of M. Heymann in Munich and later in Paris. He exhibited his impressionistic pictures painted in the latter location and reflecting influences from Manet in the Salon d'Automne for the first time. After his return to Hungary he was the artistic co-ordinator of the Pécs Zsolnay Factory for years. He put his still-lifes and china on display in the Ernst Museum in 1916, 1921 and 1927, and in Pécs in 1930. His pictures entitled 'The Artist's Mother', 'Flowers' and 'Birds' are possessed by the Hungarian National Gallery and 'Iris' and 'Wheat Consecration' are among the properties of the Budapest Museum.
