MARSCHALKÓ, János
(1819, Lőcse - 1877, Budapest)



Sculptor. He learnt in Vienna first, then went on study trips to Germany, Paris and Italy. He settled down in Pest in 1847. His best known works were the four lion figures for the Chain Bridge (1852). He modelled statues for the Dome in Kassa, the church in Fót, the Csokonai Theatre in Debrecen, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Municipal Concert Hall, and the Rudas Bath, etc. It was Marschalkó who finished the busts of Kazinczy and Kölcsey which István Ferenczy could never finish because of his death.
