LÁSZLÓ, Fülöp Elek
(1869, Pest -1937, London)

Fülöp László (Sir Philip Laub) was a portrait painter. After his studies at Bertalan Székely and Károly Lotz in Budapest, he went to Munich. He lived in Budapest and Vienna until 1907, and in London. He became a British citizen from 1914. He painted portraits of well-known personalities in Europe and the USA (Leo XIII, Roosevelt, etc.). It was largely due to his idealized portraits painted in an academic style that he became a popular painter among the aristocracy all over the world.
