KÖRÖSFŐI-KRIESCH, Aladár
(1863, Budapest - 1920, Budapest)

Ego sum via, veritas et vita

1903
Tempera on canvas, 158,5 x 286 cm
Municipal Museum, Gödöllő (loan from Hungarian National Gallery)

This painting is one of the most perfect expressions of the purity of the Christain faith of the Gödöllő masters. It displays a mentality that sought and found the fullness of life in family togetherness. Körösfői-Kriesch painted it after the premature death of his first child. The composition (on the right side of which members of the Gödöllő settlement are recognizable) illustrates Christian compliance with the Divine will.
