Kmetty remained consequent to his early self and to the logical and pure structure of cubism. Still-life was his most important subject-matter. He expressed his thoughts on man through obejcts of everyday life. "Laid Table" shows a a table in a room in a view from above. This technique makes space more emphasized. The table turns in the direction of depth, the artist counterbalances that objects appear shorter. Forms are srrounded by wide dark contours. Kmetty avoids soft and flexible transitions, he uses angular lines crossing one another where forms would suggest a softer harmony. Colours have hardly any role in the composition, the picture is united by one uniform shade.
