Dancing Peasant II

1870
Terracotta, height: 28,2 cm
Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest

Of all the village themes, he was most attracted to the motifs of folk dancing. Many of his statues any tiny, some the result of only an hour's work. At first glance they seem to be hastily made sketches, yet they contain all the harmony of form, emotion and idea of a complete work. The whole series consists of fifteen pieces, and "Dancing Peasant was one of the last, probably made in 1870, and it is the most mature version of this theme.
