ISPÁNKI, József
(1906, Budapest - 1992, Budapest)

Sculptor. He went to school in Kaposvár. Later he became a pupil of István Szentgyörgyi at the Art School in Budapest in 1927. He went to Rome on a state scholarship in 1931. His art connected him with the so-called art school of Rome where he mainly produced medals. From 1943 onwards, his works were exhibited at regular intervals. In 1938, he was commissioned to create the statues of "King Stephen and Queen Gisela", his most significant work, to be erected in Veszprém. As the statue met with praise, further tasks were entrusted to Ispánki. He created several medals and portraits.
