HOLLÓSY, Simon
(1857, Máramarossziget - 1918, Técső)

Dancing Girls at the Edge of the Forest

1895
Oil on canvas, 151 x 200 cm
Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest

The painting is an early example of the Hungarian Art Nouveau and it is unique in the painter's oeuvre. Hollósy did not considered himself a portraitist, and although he attempted this as a commission for a triple portrait, there is a symbolic, even Bacchic quality in the depiction of the three women.
