HESZ, János Mihály
(1768, Eger - 1833, Vienna)

Hesz, who was a painter and copper engraver, was the pupil of H. Maurer in Vienna. He taught free-hand drawing at the Military Academy in Vienna from 1794 onwards. He painted portraits, altar pieces for churches in Szamosújvár, Esztergom, Agárd and Eger. He did copper engravings on mythological and ecclesiastical subject matters. In 1820, he appealed for an art academy to be established.
