HEGYI, György
(1922, Budapest - 2001, Budapest)



Painter and mosaic artist. From 1946 to 50 he studied under the instructions of Róbert Berény, Jenő Barcsay and Géza Fónyi as his masters at the Academy of Fine Arts. He was one of the young painters of the European School. He made study trips to Czechoslovakia, France, Italy, Bulgaria, the Soviet Union and Israel. He joined the Szentendre colony of artists as a member in 1964.

He appeared with his first one-man exhibitions in Kolozsvár (Cluj Napoca, Romania) in 1945, in the headquarters of the Ironworkers' Union in 1954 and his artworks could be viewed in the Fényes Adolf Gallery, Budapest in 1962. In addition to his numerous individual shows he frequently participated in the national and international exhibitions organised by the Budapest Art Gallery for 40 years starting from 1949, and from the mid-sixties he appeared regularly at the Exhibitions of Pest County and other musters of the art pursued in Szentendre.
