HEGEDÜS, László
(1870, Szentes - 1911, Budapest)

Painter. He studied in Munich, Vienna and Paris and later he became a student of the Benczúr Master School. From 1894 he exhibited his academic style ecclesiastical ('St. Emery', 'Pietà' 'Cain and Abel') and historical pictures ('The Contract Sealed with Blood', 'The Occupation of the Castle of Buda'). He also made genre-paintings and illustrations. In 1903 he was appointed a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1904 he travelled to Rome; he won the Ipolyi Prize for the Pietà he painted there. His altar pieces can be seen in the church of Szentes and in the Catholic church of New York. At the 1905 Milan international exhibition he was awarded the golden medal. In 1912 a legacy exhibition was organised in the Budapest Art Gallery.
