HALMI, Artur
(1866, Pest - 1939, New York)



Painter. He studied in Vienna and Munich. He received the Munkácsy-fellowship in 1890 for his genre painting After the Examination which reflected the Munich style. He went to Paris where 1891 he won the certificate of merit of the Salon. He was awarded with gold medals in Vienna (1893), in Antwerp (1894) and Budapest (1896). Between 1894-1910 he lived in Munich where he was the illustrator of the Jugend magazine. In 1910 he settled in New York where he executed many portraits of women and children. His exhibitions were organized in 1922 and 1931. His paintings entitled Old Woman and Flowers are in the Hungarian National Gallery.
