Madonnas of the renaissance and the ideal woman of the 20th c. influenced Gulácsy when he painted this airily light picture. The female figure, who fills the narrow picture completely, appears to be a vibrating illusion. One cannot see the whole figure. Legs are not important for floating between roses, the delicately curved body is arriving in the picture. Her hands are folded loosely and embraced by roses, which are symbols of renaissance, similarly to the deep-necked silk mantle. The coquettish smile, the self-confident look of the eyes and the hairstyle belong to a modern woman. And if one has a look at the delicately transparent dress in purplish shades, one has reality of everyday life in front of the eyes. Gulácsy found his world in the harmony of past and present. The model may have an earthly look and smile full of happines, the impressionism of roses, and Art Nouveau decorativity of soft gestures, emotions and tensions reflect the mystery of supernatural beauty and the artist's ideal of justice.
