In the foreground of the picture one can see two figures turning to and embracing each other, some branches, an insence burner with smoke, and patches of the green earth and the greyish sky. The man, in fact Gulácsy, is wearing a cap and a mantle which recalls Rembrandt's pictures. The anatomy of drawing is not acceptable from an academic point of view. Gulácsy's eyes, the woman's figure, neck, arms and hands are not realistic, they comply with the anatomy of Gulácsy's art. The picture is still very convincing, it reflects the kind of emotions which are supposed to exist between two persons. Gulácsy's eyes show frailty, that he needs advice and help while the woman's strong figure, her head delicately painted and the eyes full of devotion suggest support and help. The picture indicates a harmony between man and surroundings, i.e. soul and nature. Both figures are surrounded by branches leaning in on both sides. Blooms on branches are red, recalling the colour of blood, or lively green symbolizing life in full bloom. Gulácsy may have been inspired Baudelaire's poetry when he painted an experience arising from senses. In spite of all this beauty and emotions, Gulácsy's face reflects a feeling of insecurity with clothes reminding us of past and mortality.
