FORGÁCS HANN, Erzsébet
(1897, Budapest - 1954, Budapest)

Sculptor and graphic artist. Following her philosophy and art history studies at the University of Budapest, she developed her skills as a private student of Zsigmond Kisfaludi Strobl. She was educated under the guidance of Sicard and later Bourdelle at the Academy of Paris. She exhibited her expressionist-minded works in the Paris Salon for the first time. Every year she was present at the exhibitions of the New Society of Artists; she organised comprehensive exhibitions in Budapest in 1930, 1933, 1943, 1946 and 1947. She travelled on study trips to various European countries. She was one of the founders of the European School. After her death a memorial collection bearing her name was created out of her works and the pieces in her modern art collection, in the Janus Pannonius Museum. Apart from her sculptures she has bequeathed a wealth of graphic art to posterity. As an art critic she was the author of countless articles. A portion of her works is kept by the Hungarian National Gallery.
