There were three outstanding figures among the several artists in the Ferenczy family: Károly Ferenczy was leading master of the artists' colony at Nagybánya; his daughter Noémi was an outstanding gobelin artist, while his son Béni became an acknowledged sculptor. Béni Ferenczy briefly experimented with Cubism during the 1910s. Then he developed his personal style drawing from Antique sources and from the example of two great masters of modern European sculpture, Maillol and Despiau.
He rendered dynamic movement perceptible by pure sculptural means in the perfectly balanced composition of "Stepping Woman" modeled in 1939. Béni Ferenczy's sculpture and unique medals, together with his teaching work between 1946 and 1949, had a great impact on the younger generation of artists.
