This painting is a fine example of Fényes's Art Nouveau period. The small table, the chair with the then very popular, embroidered pillow on it, the flowers and the pile of books on the table, and the striped wall-paper behind them are important requisites of the lifestyle of the Hungarian bourgeoisie. The finely composed system of forms and colours make this painting so significant. The carefully chosen elements summon the lost tranquillity of a far gone era.
