Among Flowers

1911
Oil on canvas, 94 x 64,5 cm
Katona József Museum, Kecskemét

Géza Faragó was one of the most adept of minor Art Nouveau masters who made a colourful contribution to the artistic landscape of the expanding Budapest with their posters. His "Among the Flowers" is a fine example of the symbolic value attributed to flowers in Art Nouveau. The flowers provide a commentary on the women depicted, the lily signifying purity, the rose, consummation, and the creeper, sin.
