ENDRE, Béla
(1870, Szeged - 1928, Mártély)

Painter, designer. Breaking up his engineering studies, he took up painting in Paris in 1890-98, then visited Italy. He settled down in Hódmezővásárhely in 1908 where he shared a studio with János Tornyai and Gyula Rudnay. He spent his summers in Mártély for 18 years where he painted pictures of people and landscapes in a delicate style akin to Tornyai's ("Landscape with Stacks", "Clouds", "Group of Trees"). "Getting Even", his major work, shows Munkácsy's influence.
