"Almost all of Aba-Novák's pictures plunge into life full of people and animals, especially where they gather in colourful crowds, " wrote Ernő Kállai in the catalogue of the Fränkel Salon in 1936. This remark particularly applies to "Market in Csikszereda", which is known to exist in several versions. The event observed from the distance is formed into a picture composed in a routine-like way. The painter draws the eyes from strawhats becoming smaller and smaller to the double church tower with an inclination for narration. Aba-Novák fills every square inch of the picture with beating "lifelikeness". From the crowd vibrating in noisy colours, a few scenes flash up, but they are not emphasized in the noisy crowd impossible to cross. Market-people almost lost among their coaches and goods would present the same eventual sight.
