House altar of Queen Elizabeth

Silver enamel technique. Classical Gothic figures are transformed into delicately elegant ones. When closed, the tabernacle looks like a house decorated with apostles and angels. When open, the Madonna breastfeeding her child and two angels can be seen in the casket, thus prayers can be said privately. Angels are holding cases of relics. Crosses of processions and shrines prove that the style became popular in Hungary. The altar is exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
