The Bakócz Chapel in Esztergom (1506-08)

Tamįs Bakócz, Archbishop of Esztergom, was the most significant supporter of art in Hungary in the Jagello-period. He established the chapel dedicated to Maria Annunciata in 1506 and it was shortly completed. The chapel was the first central ecclesiastical building beyond the Alps and the most important Renaissance artwork of the period in Hungary. This type of building was spread to the north from Esztergom.
