Capital (diagonal view I)

1095-1116
Stone
Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest

Prince Álmos had built a monastery at Dömös which was consacrated already in the life of his brother, King Kálmán (1095-1116). This large capital originates from the church whih belonged to the monastery. This diagonal view represents an eagle killing a hare. The fragment is dated to the period of establishing the monastery, however, it can be also assumed that it was executed only in the time of King Béla II (1131-41).
