Sarcophagus of Saint Stephen (left side)

1083
Marble
King Saint Stephen Museum, Székesfehérvár

The date and the origin of the sarcophagus are debated. It is now generally accepted as the sarcophagus af Saint Stephen (although some experts connet it with Saint Emery, son of King Stephen). The date could be the death of Saint Stephen (1038) or his cononization (1083) the latter being more probable according to the study of iconographic detail of the sarcophagus.
