Legend of St. Ladislas, detail

1420s
Fresco
Sacresty of the Parish Church, Kakaslomnic

The fresco cycle, from which some fragments survived in the sacresty of the Parish Church at Kakaslomnic, is one of the oldest representations of the Legend of Saint Ladislas. The paintings depicts the last episodes of the battle of the Saint King with the Cumanian: the arching Cumanian, the wrestling, and finally the scene when the girl kills the Cumanian. The background is neutral, the landscape is only symbolically indicated. The vividly coloured scenes are painted according to the traditions of the Gothic style.
