VASTAGH, György the Younger
(1868, Kolozsvár - 1946, Budapest)



Sculptor, son of György (1834-1922) and brother of Géza. On his return from Munich where he learnt sculpture, his animal figures and genre sculptures met with recognition (e.g. "Horseherd" in Buda Castle, etc.). Later, he was engaged in ornamental sculpture (e.g. the Dome in Budapest) and memorials ("Hadik Memorial" in Buda Castle, the "Statue of Gábor Bethlen" of Millennium Memorial, the "Statue of Péter Pázmány" for the university in Budapest, the equestrian statue of Rákóczy in Szeged, etc.). His statues are in the collection of the Hungaran National Gallery, and several animal figures in the Museumof Agriculture.
